Festival Highlights in Edinburgh
During the main Festival period, 17 May - 3 June, the capital city was brimming with design-minded walks, talks, tours, exhibitions and happenings.
The City Arts Centre was host to a major Six Cities Design Festival exhibition from the Vitra Design Museum, Living in Motion: Design and Architecture for Flexible Dwelling. Featuring over 150 design objects ranging from traditional South American hammocks to mobile phones, combined with a fantastic line-up of workshops for all ages, Living in Motion examined the age-old pursuit of nomadic living.
Another main highlight of the Festival in Edinburgh was Northern City (Between Light and Dark), a stunning series of installations that spanned across the city of Edinburgh, created by Scotland’s leading architects and artists. We Must Cultivate Our Garden by Nathan Coley is one of the still-remaining installations situated on the roof of the Herald Building overlooking St Andrew's Square until 2 September 2007.
The Design Fairground in Edinburgh brought families to Princes Street for a fun day of design activities and 3DEdinburgh showcased the best designers from the city in West Princes Street Gardens.
Our Designer Double Bill talk with legendary clothing designer Zandra Rhodes and Belinda Dickson, also known as ‘The Queen of Cashmere’, at The Hub was an incredible evening, as was the Success by Design talk with Bill Sermon, Vice President of Design for Nokia Multimedia.
